Mr. Julius Steinberg,
Traverse City, Mich.
Dear Sir:
Sometime ago, one of your general salesmen was in your city,
and from him we learned that you were building an opera house which from
his description we judge to be one of the finest in the state. We
have also had a talk with Mr. Robinson of our city, from which we are
able to draw the conclusion that it will be an ornament to your city
and a source of pleasure and comfort to those who may have the privilege
of availing themselves of the advantages that will necessarily be afforded
by it.
Our salesman informed us that you were to furnish the house and
have it ready for the coming season, which will doubtless open about the
first of September. Such being the case it will be quite necessary
that you place your order for the necessary chairs before-hand, as all
theatrical men realize the fact that it is necessary for the order to be
placed in order that the chairs may be ready for prompt shipment on the date specified.
We are receiving every day orders from various parts of the county
for chairs to be delivered at a future date, and it is no exaggeration to
J.S.2.
say that we have on our order books nearly 100,00 chairs that must be deliv-
ered on or before the first day of September. This, you are aware, means
a vast amount of work.
We have an order for the Walnut Street Theatre of Cincinnati for
about 1800, also from Huntsville, Ala., Ashland, Ky; Columbus, Ohio; and at
many other points throughout the country which it is not necessary to specify.
This is, comparatively speaking, our lull season of the year, and we
could take your order, manufacture the chairs and hold them subject toy our
order for date of shipment. This we can do for less money now during this
comparative lull than we could at a later date during the active season, when
we would be crowed to the utmost capacity of our factory. Then, again, by
early placing your order, you will insure prompt delivery.
Our Mr. Maskell, who called upon you, informs us that you said that you
would be in our city at an early date and look at our samples. We would res-
pectfully and urgently invite you to make your trip here at as early a date
as possible, as it is our desire, at least, to do all the business in our
line that is required in Michigan. We have a local state price, which
prompts us to give you a price that will defy outside competition.
Trusting that we may hear from you at an early date and that we may have
[ple]asure of a visit from you, we are,
Very truly yours,
Dictacted.
