Abstract
Historian Larry Wakefield's research papers provide a thorough insight into historic
preservation in the 1970s, the legacy of some of Traverse City’s first European settlers,
and the importance of the downtown-district in Traverse City’s local history.

Collection created by Traverse City author and historian Lawrence (Larry) McConnell
Wakefield as a product of his published work,HistoricTraverse City Houses, 1890-1905
(published around 1978). Most of the residences profiled were in Traverse City, in and
around the Central Neighborhood District.

The collection includes fragments of Wakefiels manuscript forHistoric Traverse City

Abstract
Historian Larry Wakefield's research papers provide a thorough insight into historic
preservation in the 1970s, the legacy of some of Traverse City’s first European settlers,
and the importance of the downtown-district in Traverse City’s local history.
History
Collection created by Traverse City author and historian Lawrence (Larry) McConnell
Wakefield as a product of his published work,HistoricTraverse City Houses, 1890-1905
(published around 1978). Most of the residences profiled were in Traverse City, in and
around the Central Neighborhood District.
Scope and Content Note:
The collection includes fragments of Wakefiels manuscript forHistoric Traverse City
Houses, including original photographs of the interiorand exterior of historic houses,
and biographical material about local families.
